The Versions I Own
The Versions I Own
There are many different versions of Bop It that have been made since its initial release in 1997, with many unique styles and multiple color variations. Scroll through the gallery below to see the different versions I currently have in my collection! This gallery will be updated often as new releases come out, or whenever I find a different revision or color variation.
The original Bop It was released in 1997, but there were 3 other revisions of this version that were released in 1998, 1999, and 2000.
The original Bop It had 4 different revisions of the game: 1997, 1998, 1999, and 2000. You can tell a difference between 1997-1998 and 1999-2000 by some very hardly noticeable details. The 'Bop It' logo was a different shade of yellow on the purple button on the 1999-2000 versions, and it was also shorter by about 0.5 inches (1.27 cm) than the original 1997-1998 releases.
A sequel to the original Bop It was released in 1999. It was a more challenging version called Bop It Extreme that played like original Bop It but added Spin It and Flick It to the mix.
A keychain version of the original Bop It was released in 2000. It included full gameplay like the full-size game, but the speaker quality was bad, and it sucked the juice out of button cell batteries fast.
A keychain version of the Bop It Extreme was released in 2000. It included full gameplay like the full-size game, but the speaker quality was bad, and it sucked the juice out of button cell batteries fast.
A pen version of the original Bop It was released in 2001. It included very limited gameplay unlike the keychain. The game only went up to 15. The speaker quality was bad, and it sucked the juice out of button cell batteries fast.

There was an ultra-rare version of the Bop It Extreme that was on a wristwatch, releasing in 2002. It had limited gameplay, only going up to 25 like the pen. There were only 50 units made, and this is the second one I've ever seen in my life. I choose to keep it in the package because it's so rare, although the batteries are probably corroded or expanded or something in there after being in there for over 20 years...
A 2000s revamp and logo rebranding of the original Bop It was released in 2002, but had commercials out in 2004.
The Bop It Keychain got a re-release in 2003 with the 2000s Bop It logo rather than the original. It included very limited gameplay, exact gameplay as the pen. The game only went up to 15. The speaker quality was improved a lot compared to the 2000 keychain, and button cell batteries lasted a lot longer.

Bop It Extreme 2 was released in 2003. It was designed to look similar to that of the first Bop It Extreme, but with a new hip-hop aesthetic that made it look authentic to the 2000s. A One-on-One mode was added for two players to battle.
A pink version of Bop It Extreme 2 was released in 2004 that was a UK exclusive.

This is a very hard-to-find version of Bop It. It's a Bop It Keychain in the shape of the Bop It re-release from 2002. This version was released in 2004. It is supposed to have the exact same programming as the Bop It Keychain from 2003.
A keychain version of the Bop It Extreme 2 was released in 2004, with the same programming and gameplay, along with same celebratory siren sound as the 2003 Bop It Extreme Keychain re-release at the end when you score 25.
The Bratz Bop It was a feminine Bratz-themed version of Bop It that looked similar to that of the 2000s revamp of Bop It, but had a female voice announcer instead of a male, along with a more feminine color aesthetic. It was released in 2005.
Bop It Blast was a version released in 2006 with the Vox Bop voice commands and Beat Bop sound commands, along with a new Light Bop mode where if the command that is called is also lit up, you are supposed to do the action. If not, then wait.

In 2006, there were UK exclusive versions of Bop It Extreme 2 in all black and all white. They are both labeled on the unit as simply 'Bop It'. The all white one has a reflective ring around the Bop It button, similar to its successor, the Bop It (2009).

In 2006, there were UK exclusive versions of Bop It Extreme 2 in all black and all white. They are both labeled on the unit as simply 'Bop It'. The all black one has all the objects in a black plastic. Note: The Pull It handle is known to snap easily.
Bop It Download was an exclusively released version only to the United Kingdom in 2007. It allowed the player to have the ability to record their own voice or even download sounds through a special software that could be sent into the game from a computer using a USB cable.

There were some versions of Bop It Download that, instead of an arrow design on the 'Download' part of the logo, the word was placed in a scarlet red colored oval.

Besides the logo change with the word, 'Download' having arrows on some units, and a scarlet colored oval that says, 'Download' in it, there is no difference in gameplay.
In 2009, Bop It rebranded its logo and made a modern version of the classic game, this time adding an optional Shout It, where if the game calls the command, a player has to say something into the microphone. It could be turned on or off by flipping the green switch on the top of the game. There were two different revisions of this version, but cosmetically, there is no difference.

The Bop It with Shout It got turned into a portable carabiner clip in 2009. The Shout It microphone was always on. It had very limited play to it, as you could not adjust the volume, and it only had Solo mode. The game was able to be beaten at 25.
A Clear version of the Bop It with Shout It was released in 2010. The game is completely transparent, so you can see everything going on inside.
Bop It Bounce that was released in 2010 should not even be a Bop It, because it plays nothing like one. Plus, the Inventor of Bop It never invented this one. This was all made without any consent from him. There were two different revisions of this version, but cosmetically, there is no difference.
Bop It XT was released in 2011 as a modern version of Bop It Extreme, this version with an optional Shake It button that, when activated, if the unit calls out the command, the player must shake the entire unit gently.
A translucent Black Onyx version of Bop It XT was released in 2012. It was a rare edition that was exclusive and only available at Target.
A red Caliente edition of Bop It XT was released in 2012. It was sold everywhere, like the standard white version, but it was a pretty rare version compared to the standard white.
A green Sonic edition of Bop It XT was released in 2012. It was a rare edition that was exclusive and only available at Toys R Us.
A Bop It spinoff was released in 2012 called Bop It Smash, where a player had to 'smash' the light that goes in back-and-forth patterns in the middle zone.
A special Black Onyx version of Bop It Smash was released in 2012. However, the whole unit isn't all translucent black like the Bop It XT was.

The Bop It with Shout It Carabiner clip from 2009 had two alternate color variations, as well as the standard white. It also came in red and blue. Pictured here is the blue variant. When opening the game package brand new, it says 'Copyright 2012 Hasbro', but the unit says 'Copyright 2009', so the photo here is in order with the package date, which is 2012.
A 'Classic' version of the Bop It with Shout It was released in 2013, with normal gameplay, but Shout It was not implemented at all in the game. This was a UK exclusive.

A Silver Edition of Bop It Tetris was released shortly after the normal multicolored was in 2013.

A miniature carabiner clip version of Bop It XT was released in 2013. Shake It was always on. The programming was really bad in this version though, as the sounds for Spin It and Shake It were swapped, along with Shake It being hard to register, especially when playing the Pro level where a player does 3 moves in a row. There is no confirmation that a player did all the commands correctly until the last command in the sequence was completed successfully. Full Bop It XT gameplay was included, but only had Solo mode with all levels already unlocked.
The Bop It with Shout It Carabiner clip from 2009 had two alternate color variations, as well as the standard white. It also came in red and blue. Pictured here is the red variant. When opening the game package brand new, it says 'Copyright 2013 Hasbro', but the unit says 'Copyright 2009', so the photo here is in order with the package date, which is 2013.

In 2013, there was a McDonald's Happy Meal toy in the UK of Bop It Bounce. The toy has very little detail in it, and it comes with a plastic ball that looks like it came from a kids' inner playground ball pit. This was one of the 5 toys for a Hasbro themed Happy Meal toy lineup. Others included Cranium, Battleship, Pictureka, and Twister.

One uniquely strange thing about the 2013 Bop It Bounce UK Happy Meal toy was when you shook the 'trampoline', it squeaked like a dog toy does. It's very weird, but it's McDonald's, so what do you expect?
Bop It Beats was released in 2014, and looked like a DJ turntable. It used different commands compared to normal Bop It, and gameplay was done over 4 different songs, including "Pound the Alarm" by Nicki Minaj and "Levels" by Avicii.
Bop It got smaller in 2014 as the Bop It Micro Series, with compact gameplay and only went up to 100 on Solo, and then included Pass It. A revision of the game with smoother moving actions was released in 2022 with the Bop It 2019 themed packaging. There was also a Simon Micro Series that released in 2013, and a revision in 2021.

A version of the McDonald's Bop It was released in 2014 in the UK.

Bop It went through another logo rebranding in 2016, as it released a new version of Bop It that not only had the classic Bop, Twist, and Pull, but 10 action moves. Some of these moves included: 'Drink It', 'Whip It', 'Selfie It', and 'Hammer It'. The Bop It button also changed to a tap sensor.

Bop It Maker that released in 2017 allowed a player to make 10 of their own custom moves for Bop It using their voice for the command and sound effect, along with motion controls like the Bop It from 2016.

Although this Bop It did not function with audio or anything like a Bop It should, Hasbro copyrighted and licensed a Bop It game with a cardboard die as a McDonald's Happy Meal toy as part of the Hasbro Gaming toy lineup for May 2018 in the US. It was Toy #5 out of the 9 that were available in the lineup at the time.

This is the cardboard die that the 2018 McDonald's Bop It Happy Meal toy came with.

Here are the differences between the 2014 UK and the 2018 US McDonald's Bop It units. Clearly, the main difference is the logo, as well as the command stickers on the 2018. But the Flick It / Switch It are differently shaped. The 2014 UK looks more like an XT Flick It than the 2018 US. And the Twist It shape on the 2014 UK looks bigger with an extra layer compared to the 2018 US. The Spin It is much harder to spin to make it click on the 2014 UK than the 2018 US.
A Bop It 'Classic' was released in 2019, shaped to look like the one with Shout It, and had programming like that of a Bop It Micro Series, only adding Beat Bop to the unit as well.

There were four revisions of the Bop It 'Classic', originally releasing in 2019. The three revisions are shown here. The first has a smooth, non-textured handle, and volume controls went 'Quiet, Loud, Blasting' when Twisting It before a game. The second revision has a textured handle, along with a darker logo than the first, and volume controls went 'Loud, Quiet, Blasting' when Twisting It. The third revision had a better speaker and a darker logo, and stops increasing pitch after 70. The other versions increased and stayed at the highest pitch at 80 until the game was beaten. There is still some stuff that needs to be discovered in regards to key differences of the fourth revision.

This is a non-working Bop It. This is a micro-figure of the 2019 Bop It that was sold by Zuru as one of their grab bag 'collect them all' capsules. From researching, it came in Series 2 of Zuru micro-figures back in 2020.
The Bop It micro-figure by Zuru in 2020 is 10× smaller than the full-size Bop It the figure is based off of. From the end of Twist It to the end of Pull It on the full version, it measures about 12.5 inches (31.75 cm). The figure is the game at 1/10th scale, the whole thing measuring only 1.25 inches (3.175 cm) wide! It's even smaller than the Bop It button on the World's Smallest Bop It from 2022!
A version of Bop It designed to look like Spider-Man was released in 2021. It is unknown why this happened.
Bop It Inventor Dan Klitsner made a prototype of a Bop It Card Game. The Deluxe version, shown here, had 3D-printed Bopjects that you could stick the suction cup on them to anything for more advanced, but fun gameplay. The prototype was limited edition and was on his website, Bop It for Good, in 2021.

Bop It turned 25 in 2022, so Hasbro and a company called Super Impulse released a World's Smallest Bop It in 2022 to honor the milestone. The gameplay was identical to the third revision of Bop It 'Classic' from 2019, with the pitch not changing anymore after 70.
The World's Smallest Bop It came with a little plastic stand to mount the unit onto if someone were to display it on their shelf or desk. This was to honor Bop It's 25th Anniversary in 2022.
A new version of Bop It Extreme was released in 2022, with the game body resembling the original Bop It Extreme, as well as the shapes of the Bop It with motion from 2016 for the objects. This was basically a second edition to Bop It XT from 2011.

Bop It Inventor Dan Klitsner invented a one-button Bop It game for Bop It's 25th Anniversary. It will tell a player to either Bop It, or Don't Bop It. The goal is to get 2500 points straight and not lose by getting distracted by other sounds programmed in to try to mess with your head to make you screw up. The Bop It Button, as its called, had a Bonus Edition in two different color variants. One looked like the original Bop It, except with a more modernized logo based on the original, and one that had the 2008 themed appearance that was all white. The Original variant is pictured here.

The Bop It Button Bonus Editions had extra secret modes, along with guest voices from famous people on TikTok saying 'Bop It'. After 2500 points was reached, the game played a special congratulatory message from the Inventor of Bop It himself! Bonus modes included a timer, a whoopee cushion, and a checkpoint to start the game at 150 where guest voices start to appear rather than all the way back at 0. When you changed the batteries in the Bonus Editions, the units had a longer-lasting capacitor that allowed it to stay powered for approximately 45 seconds so you could change the batteries in time without losing your high scores and all-time score of number of Bops overall.
The Bop It Button went as a retail version branded by Super Impulse in 2023. This had no guest voices, bonus modes, or message from the Inventor upon completion. The guest voice clips were replaced with unused announcer clips that were featured on the Bop It Inventor's TikTok. These samples are also lower quality. Once you remove a battery from the game, it resets everything to 0 immediately.
A Leonardo Bop It was released in 2023 for the release of the movie, 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem'.

In 2024, there came another character Bop It in the series, this time as Optimus Prime to celebrate Transformers' 40th anniversary. Finally, Hasbro used their own line of products for a Bop It so they didn't license out anywhere!

What are we to expect for Bop It in 2025? There are hundreds of projects and ideas floating in Dan Klitsner's mind. Which one will attempt to become a reality first? We'll just have to wait and see... Check my YouTube channel periodically for updates!
